The VCV you can change without diagnostics.
I did and many others, zero problems at all, it will relearn after time anyway. Regards the brake vac pump, I would carefully clean the mating surfaces (carefully donโt scratch surface) and fit a new gaskets. Torque settings are in the WSM you can find online. When I had to change mine due to waterpump failure I replaced the fixings just because I could along with the gasket though not vital. Donโt remove the nut on the pipe of the brake vac pump, just the fixings affixing it to the waterpump to free it. See if that helps, give it all a clean with brake cleaner first externally as well and see how it goes.

I have changed the VCV and the vac pump and given it a good clean.
600 mile round trip to Wales this weekend and ahead of doing EGR blank and other gubbins I would check and clean the inlet manifold again. This seems a little worse than before Click image to enlarge Carbon build up and oil. I have not checked the turbo side of the intercooler yet but I am wondering if I have a turbo issue or excessive oil coming from the engine breather. Stuck my finger up the MAP sensor housing and it was quite wet Click image to enlarge Is this likely to be breather pipe oil or indicative of something more serious, perhaps with the turbo? |

Either it is yuk coming from the breather, or it could be oil leaking from the turbo. It is not easy to tell which.
This is the reason that many of us fit Provent or other catch-cans on the breather system, to prevent nasty gunk like that getting back into the inlet. This is what came out of my Provent the first time I drained it: Click image to enlarge Without the Provent that water and oil soup would have transited the turbo, intercooler, and re-entered the engine! Not a nice thought. |
