Change the whole thing, less than £100, will have new ignition key though. Cheers

It depends what you mean by faulty, to be honest. It's entirely possible to change the switch that makes the electrical contacts whilst retaining the barrel and hence the key. If the fault is electrical (failure to start, for example) then that's the way to go. If the fault is mechanical though, such as the key sticking or even falling out, then you'll need a new barrel that will then give you a new key. Darren

Yes electrical fault on starting👍
Cheers, what the best switch to get? Would rather not have extra keys! But if it’s far easier could change the barrel. |

If you change the barrel you can buy kits that come with new door lock barrels too so they are keyed alike. Changing the whole barrel will require the anti theft bolts to be drilled out, not a difficult job, I did mine a few months ago and changed the barrel and all three door lock barrels in an afternoon.
So, in essence try and change the switching part if you can but doing the whole shooting match is not a major job if it comes to it. |

Cheers for that, think I’ll try the switch first.

The switch is shown in this picture and is secured to the end of the barrel with two tiny Philips screws. On a Puma it's necessary to take the barrel out in order to get at those screws but I don't know whether that's necessary on a TD5. The dash is a lot less complex and bulky, so you make get away with it.

Check also contacts in starter. They are common fault on TD5. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo
