My 2003 110 was stolen in January and partially stripped - and subsequently found in a field with six other Defenders about 5 months later by the police - see photo. I've now bought it back from the insurance company and I'm trying to get her back on the road. With a fresh battery attached the car won't start and I'm getting the red flashing engine light which I think indicates a problem with the immobiliser. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can resolve this? One thing - obvious from the photos - is that the doors have all been stolen and I wonder therefore if the central locking function may be preventing the immobiliser from allowing the engine to start?? All ideas/suggestions welcome! PS - also if anyone has any good doors for sale I'd be keen to buy all five! |

I hope you'll get it running again.
The doors would not prevent it from starting. Make sure though, they haven't cause any shorts. I guess they just cut the wires? Have you visually checked everything they may have done to disable alarm and immobilizer? Can you check for errors using a nanocom for example? Last edited by macfrank on 1st Sep 2022 6:40pm. It makes me sad and angry seeing that photo.
I’m pleased it was found and you’ve got it back 👍 Does the starter actually crank the engine or is it just ‘dead?’ Does the fuel pump run when you turn the key before cranking? I am wondering if the thieves have disabled something with a view (at the time) of returning for other parts? Have you checked the relays etc. under the seat? I’m sure others on here will come to your rescue. Best of luck. |

Another random thought - could there be an issue with the intertidal switch?
I’m finding hard to visualise/understand multiple stripped defenders laying undiscovered for 5 months - it must be a very remote site. Hope you sort it 👍 Inertia not intertidal… Last edited by Screbble on 1st Sep 2022 9:20pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Look for key fob resynchonization. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

Thanks Screbble. The starter doesn't turn - the ignition comes on and the fuel pump runs briefly but when I turn the key there is no response. The relays under the seat are all in place but I don't know if any are defective. All the fuses are in place and intact. I didn't understand your question about the inertia switch ?
Many thanks. John |

There’s an inertia switch under the bonnet not too far away from the expansion tank.
It’s wired in line with the main relay. It’s purpose is to shut off the engine in the event of a collision (I believe). I’m only guessing but given the activities the thieving scumbags have undertaken, it may have been knocked, disconnected, damaged etc. Only a guess. Click image to enlarge |

Have you confirmed all of the fuses for the 10AS alarm system are intact (including the one hidden in the wiring around the steering column)? 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

what a shame but well done for getting it back.
If your location is Woldingham just the other side of Croydon I have a Nanacom that works for my 2003 TD5 and Im in SE London so let me know if it that could be any help? But Im afraid I don't have the skills with immobilisers but someone on here could probably guide us on how to disable it. I also have tools and a spare starter motor.. Get in touch if you think it might help. A |

I think rallysteve is closer to the potential issue. Fuse F8 (10A) in the passenger fuse box is worth a look. Going back to an earlier point I also wonder if damage removing the doors has caused a short on the alarm unit. This may prove useful (I hope): Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

The inertia switch cuts off the fuel pump, not the engine per se. The OP said the fuel pump buzzed momentarily, indicating the inertia switch is OK. It may be necessary to reflash the key fob with the AS10 because the symptoms would tend to indicate there is no key fob confirmation by the proximity ring next to the ignition switch. |

what is the state of the door looms just in case the have just cut those? which may have upset the system. I know mine shouts at me with the horn if the doors or bonnet are open if i lock it. If you can get a Diagnostic kit for it, they are expensive, but i think it would be pure gold here for you, plug it in and read the error code and google it,
Also check if there other damage around the ignition barrel too, just in case that has some damage too, there is a ring. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Running fuel pump and working MIL and GLOW lights = engine ecu has powe and software inside works.
Not turning starter is blocked by 10AS. You have to unlock tha 10AS with key fob. When not used for long time, it can be out of synchronization. Try to press the unlock button several times, to resynchronize it. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |
