Some users (2.4 engine) in this forum are using thicker oils such as 0w40 and 5w50. Puma 110" SW

At a consumer level you are unlikely to notice much between any brand that meets the specification so I wouldn't get too hung up on Castrol.

Thereafter it becomes a matter of perception and brand loyalty. Stu...

You have to use WSS-M2C913-B/C/D which translates to Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A5

Do not use ANY oil that is not WSS-M2C913-B/C/D compliant. Bergos

There are many oils that meet WSS-M2C913. It’s not just Castrol, which is exactly what I’m eluding to in my post above.

If it meets the spec it will be fine. Stu...

Sure. My point was - do not use other oils than WSS-M2C913-B/C/D.
I was sure that 5W40, 0W40, 5W50 would be better but it seems not to be the case with this engine.
Any other oil would decrease fuel economy, increase engine temperatures and in long ter do Censored . Bergos

In a 2.4 the Ford requirment does not really matter. In fact the best quality 5w30s may not meet that standard. The Ford specification for the 2.4 Puma is calling for a fuel economy oil for emissions and economy reason, not because it best protects the engine. There are better quality oils, in terms of engine protection, avaialble from Fuch and Motul and others that don't meet the Ford standard. I am not saying the Ford standard oils are bad, there are many good ones, just that in a 2.4 you don't need to get hung up on finding one that has the Ford approval on it. Any good modern fully synthetic 5w30 is OK. I would be cautious of using a different grade though. What the problem being solved by doing so?

The above doesn't apply to the 2.2 which has trhe DPF with special oil requirments. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

The only advantage I can see is a higher HTHS value. That said, I do not design engines and Im not tribologist. Puma 110" SW

For anyone interested for emergency- I was caught short on needing to top up my oil. In desperation I went down the car isle in home bargains and they actually had the required oil for the 2.4 TDCi..! £6.. M2C913-B 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

Good to see Rock Oil! My uncle's wife's father founded the company, uncle took on the running some time after marriage.
Uncle now dead, but 'Aunty Barbara' is still the Chairwoman. I think my cousin is still the MD/CEO too.
