Anyone own an Alpine iLX-705D
Might be a daft question, but any idea if it is compatible with a reverse camera? Is it any specific connection? I’m wanting to install it with an optimill reversing camera.

Cheers

If you look on the Alpine web site for this model it says it has 2 camera inputs. I've got an iLX-650BT - a year old - and it takes the phono video connections that have been around for decades.

Switching between 2 cameras is a doddle. Unlike on the stupidly expensive Pioneer which I tossed which was a nightmare of menu selections to switch cameras. I have 1 camera looking down at the towball and corners [or almost] and another with a more rearwards view.

Thanks Michael. Does the camera come on automatically when you select reverse? If so, do you know how? As in: what’s the wiring set up to do this?

Cheers

I have the 702 version (same but older) and Optimill rear camera.

Note the 702 I needed to buy a seperate camera loom €8 to allow the phono Jack from the camera to plug in. The alpine from what I know has there own propriety cameras that plug in directly but the loom just connects in and works when I engage reverse it put the camera on and mutes the screen. I have not specifically wired it on to a reverse switch it was on the iso plug. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

Thanks. Where did you buy the additional loom for the camera? Cheapest I can find is £30.

It can if you so wish. Either locate the cable to the reverse switch on the gearbox, wherever that may be, or run a cable to the reverse light and connect it to the + at a convenient point.

I didn't do either. I installed a separate switch from a live + . I don't like the screen switching on and off whilst shuffling back and forth. Plus with the second longer view camera I can use it as a rear view mirror when I have camping stuff loaded up in the back. To switch between cameras I just tap the screen and select front or rear [but they're both rear on mine]. Something which wasn't possible on the godawful Pioneer.

So the previos reply jumped my memory it gets the reverse feed from the adaptor that connects the power to the camera from tbe reverse light. Piggy back loom. Then that goes up the front of the car and hooks onto reverse feed. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Regarding additional looms for cameras, mine came with 2 camera input cables without the need to buy anything extra. As Alpine has 2 camera inputs in the specifications I'd be surprised and irritated if they didn't provide the means to connect straight out of the box.
