I've found that Britpart do orange 'lowered' springs which are -1", so these could be those. But should the left and right be the same length?

Drivers side springs should be about 1/2” longer.
To account for the driver, and fuel tank etc. In practice it doesn’t really matter if the springs are the same length. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop |

Thank you, do you know if the 1987 era of defender had rear anti-roll bars as standard?

Ref roll bars a 1987 SW Ninety doesn't have them - and the original chassis doesn't have the mounts.
With harsh ride I'd start with and get rid of those Britpart dampers, ensure tyre pressures are at comfort settings (28 front, 30 rear unladen) and check your bushes aren't knackered. The springs sound about the right length - they may just be HD which won't help the ride quality unladen at all. JB @Lodelaner Instagram Youtube greenlaning and other LR related content |

I would be investing in genuine springs, you cam probably pick up some tdci takes off on here and then add OME shocks. Cheers
