I've been trawling with the thread search for an hour, so apologies if this has already been covered, but here goes:
In the base of the under-seat fuse box there are a group (6, I think), of white connectors which plug into the base of the fuse box. The white connectors house female spade terminals which engage with male spades protruding from the underside of the box. Fusible link 3 from this fuse box should have a Brown/Red 4.0mm csa wire going to a relay 211. Only trouble is, there's no wire in the connector, so I can't find R211. Why do I want this? I need to take a line from relay R211 and thence to fuses 33,34 and 35 in the passenger compartment fuse-box for heated seats and electric windows. Can anyone tell me: 1. Where I can buy the female spade which goes into the white connector under fusible link 3 2. Where relay 211 is normally situated so that I can locate it or if necessary fit it 3. What type of relay is it so I can get one if I need to 4. Where the white/green wire that should be coming out of this relay goes to? (I think probably the oil pressure switch but I can't see where the 'right' place is to pick that up. Thanks in advance, Tom. |

Thanks, Andy - it tells me what they do, but I'd like to know where R211 normally goes and whether I can get the terminal to plug it in under FL3. And where I connect to the oil pressure (?) switch.
Thanks, Tom. |

Not seen a relay described as R211... What does it control?
One more shot... Might help with oil pressure switch question https://issuu.com/carakoom/docs/defender_my2002_wiring_diagram |

Hi, Andy,
Thanks for that. I do have a copy of this wiring diagram, but it doesn't tell me where R211 is (or where to put it if I have to add it), nor where Header 0285 is, which is where the engine running (oil pressure?) line should run to. Relay 211 is the one referred to in the wiring diagram as Relay-ignition. Thanks for your help - any additions gratefully received! Tom. |

The relay would have only been fitted on vehicles with E/W / Heated Seats from the factory. The white/green wire is a general ignition live signal.
If you can find a copy of the electrical library online it should show you header and relay locations. Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Thanks, Steve. That's helpful. Is the elecrical library different from the wiring diagram manual?

Yeah the electrical library includes photos and info for all of the connectors in the vehicle too (although there are quite a few errors in it!).
I have taken some photos of hopefully relevant/useful bits for you from my paper copy. You will see that R211 is fed from Header 0285 with the ignition signal but I cannot recall where the earthing is taken back to (says 0287 but that doesnt exist) so will be one of the others behind the center console. Any more info let me know, have spent a lot of time studying and modifying 02> looms for two Defenders. Brilliant! That book is the missing link! I'll find one. Many thanks, Steve.

Hmmm. Seems the wiring diagram and the Electrical Library are at odds. The Library says that fusible link three feeds a connector called the Ignition relay C0218, whereas the Wiring Diagram (p28) shows that it feeds Relay-Ignition R211. But don't lets be picky and let's assume it's the same one. It at least gives a location on the RHS of the Transmission tunnel fuse box. The rest I can track down, thanks, Steve.
Any idea where I can get the connector that goes into the bottom of the under-seat fuse box? Tom. |

No problems
In theory both are right. C0218 is the socket for relay R211. If you look at the wiring diagram closely you will see that the four connections to R211 are actually C0218 (pins 85, 86, 87 & 85 as per normal automotive relays). The connector which goes into the under seat fuse box (C0571) should already be there as position 3 of it is shown as populated for all models and position 2 on all TD5 engines. You should only need the crimp terminal for it to populate the third position. I will try and have a look at at a spare loom tomorrow as I might have some spare terminals. Dug through my spare sections of TD5 bulkhead loom and have found C0571 connectors, so you can see the teminal type:
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Blade measures approx 7.8mm wide so i believe these are Sumitomo .305" blades. I think i have some new ones somewhere but alternatively I have dug this out if it helps you: Click image to enlarge Correct terminal already installed and approx 2.7m of 3mm2 cable which oringally ran from C0571 right to the lighting stalk so should be long enough for you to terminate at the bulkhead fusebox. Rallysteve: Thanks for the pix. Nearly sorted!
Penfold6290: Thanks for the hint. I've now got one downloaded. Great addition to the library. I PM'd PaulMcC and it seems he has nearly all the bits I need. Thanks for your help, guys. Tom. |
