So Martin seems to have found the problem. I took the instrument cluster out and went for a drive up the motorway where it went straight up to 70mph without any hesitation. Pulled off and reconnected it and back down to 58 (56 on GPS).
So the issue now is, is the problem to do with the IPAC or the connection between it and the ECU (or something else). I’m quite happy to fork out for a new one, but not over the moon if it’s something else. Any thoughts chaps? |

It means that the limiter is most likely to be in the ECU (a setting or a map).
The ECU wasn't receiving a speed signal (over CAN sent out via the cluster) so it didn't limit. Although it still could be an external limiter (one which modifies the pedal signal). This is because disconnecting the cluster will affect the shape of the speed signal - so if another device is monitoring the speedo sensor signal it could have also seen 0 mph and allowed full pedal action. Any sign of modified wiring at the instrument cluster connector or the harness to it? If you've got a Nanocom or similar, can you drive it and monitor the Acc Pedal Sensor Signal values? In the emulator this is in Puma Engine > Inputs > Speed Accelerator. As you hit the 58mph limiter, mash the pedal to the floor Do the sensor values go up to 100% or are they clipped to something lower? Martin 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Hold on - just remembered there is also a instrument pack speed limit.
In Nanocom emulator Instrument Pack > Settings > right green arrow. Should show a limiter page? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Damn, if Martin hasn’t come up trumps, at least I think that it’s Martins fault
So I went into the instrument cluster menu of the Nanocom and pressed the 87mph button, although there isn’t a read out to say that, that is what it is set to. Anyway, I’ve just been up the motorway and that seems to have sorted it. Although I have no idea as to why it would have changed as there is no setting to drop the speed to 58 (which I think is actually 56). Maybe it defaults if the cluster is removed and did so when I removed it for that other pain in the neck immobiliser issue? Anyway, what a b****y nightmare. A pain in the a**e, which was actually a simple fix, and on this occasion, ignorance was not bliss!! A huge thank you to all who made contributions and suggestions… Martin, Blackwolf, Mdm, Bear100, mwestcrew, Barneyboy, Markb110, Jpboost, x4stp, landy Andy. I could not have sorted it without you and I’m very grateful. if I had all your addresses I would genuinely send you all a case of beer to show my appreciation! Thank you |

It's interesting that 15 years after the vehicle was launched we're still learning how it works and how to put it right!
Glad you're sorted, and thank you for one of the more interesting questions of recent months. |
