My 15 year old son was left some money by his grandfather and with a bit of encouragement 😬 bought this:

A 1981 343 GL with 38k miles. The carb needs a rebuild and there is a long list of fairly minor jobs to do…..and then there is the bodywork. No shortage of surface rust and the odd dink. However there was great excitement last night when he removed the driver’s seat to discover it has heated seats!! No switch but a thermostat in the seat which kicks in below 15c and out at 20 something. As we drove along in my poverty spec RR Bordeaux this evening he turned and said…’this hasn’t even got heated seats’. Happy days.

Me too Procta! My logic, which I accept may be completely flawed, is that if he spends time and effort getting it straight he might be more inclined to drive it carefully when he is 17. Regardless he will learn some practical and life skills on the way.

2016 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 Landmark LE Corris Grey

Great car for him to learn on. Almost no electronics and so easy to repair. Hope basic spares are still available.
Had two back in the 80’s with no real problems. Seem to recollect that there was a known problem with the carburettor and remember having to stop and tighten something up on one of my trips.

Yeah he will learn a lot and not drink up his money, my mate learned from me, not to drink his money up the wall and get a car. Now he's had more cars than me
