BAS remap tool
I know this has been done to death but here goes

I am considering the bas remap tool as it’s abit of a nightmare for me to get to Pete

I am just wondering if the tool is worth the additional cost over just the remap.

The tool is coming in at nearly £800

Not sure if you’ve checked, but Pete is just south of York, obviously depends where about in Cleveland you are but I reckon you could be with him is about 1hr to 1hr 15 or so. He’s a top bloke, super helpful. Which map are you going for?

Hello Col
Yeah he isn’t too far from me , I just struggle to get down through the week and Pete suggested the remap tool. I wasn’t sure if it was worth the extra £250

I am going for the 170bhp map. What have you got ?

Go south to york and visit Pete or up to Newcastle to Stagshaw. They do the BAS remaps and will change your intercooler and hoses for you at the same time. Best bet if you’re going for the 170 map. 👍

The hoses yes, the inter cooler depends! Speak to Pete, he will let you know if you need to change it. I didn’t on account that I don’t tow and I’m very rarely fully loaded so he wouldn’t sell me one on the basis that I don’t need it!

Guys I have offered the tool which should be coming Thursday

Pete said look on his website for a guide how to use it but I’ll be honest I’m no better off

Pete said that you use your phone to control the module and never the laptop

What is the laptop actually for ?

Someone will be along to give a better / more accurate answer… but from memory the laptop is needed to get the appropriate (for your defender) and current version of the software from BAS’ server onto your Bluetooth tool.
Once your tool is ready (ooer missus) you link that to the app you’ll have installed on your phone and plug it into your Defender and go from there.

Nightmare? I'm 8000 miles from Pete Laughing

As far as I remember you need to update the tool once by plugging it in to a PC, it is a while since I did mine but I think the sequence was something like - plug into vehicle to get vehicle details - plug into PC to get the necessary update to the dongle software - plug back in to vehicle. Just checked and the software I have installed on my PC is called BAS2 Updater, you download it off the BAS site and then plug the dongle in with a USB cable (which from memory is supplied with the tool) and then the app is obvious to use. Doesn't need to be a laptop, as you update the tool away from the vehicle.

I seem to remember if the phone has an internet connection it can then download some of the information needed, but not all of it.

I have used it for diagnostics since the upgrade a couple of years ago and I just use the BAS app on my phone. The dongle lives in the vehicle so using my phone means I always have diagnostics on me, peace of mind if you happen to be away from help somewhere. ---

I Have the BAS 170 and intercooler and im a happy bunny!

Plug dongle into Landy, download the info on to your phone.
Plug dongle in to PC and send the info on the phone to Pete.
Pete sends new remap files back to you.
Put on to dongle and then plug in to landy to upload the new engine map.

I used an ipad linked via wifi to view the instruction video whilst I had the dongle plugged in and linked to the phone app. It meant I could see the relevant part of the video and then pause waiting for the phone app to finish that part of the install.
