My daughter sent this message this morning.
Was in tesco car park sitting in the 90 and a man came over and pointed for me to open my window and he asked me what I had under the bonnet When I said 300tdi he said oh so a heap of and I was like EXCUSE ME And then he said he ran his defender on a 280 something which I didn't really understand because that's not a Defender engine? So I just said haha cool must go here 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

She is used to people talking to her about her 90 but she never had anyone come up to her to be specifically negative. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Why would anyone call a 300 TDI pile of ? One of the first good diesels Land Rover made and still a superb time proven reliable unit now with little electronics to fail in the field and repairable the whole world over as required as ROW spec.
Yes there are certainly both factory and aftermarket better units faster, cleaner, better on fuel etc. but you’ll never go far wrong with either a 200 or 300 TDI and in the modern era of failing injectors, egr and DPF’s the reliable 300 is a breath of fresh air (pun ) This guy reminds me of the Harry Enfield sketches of “I’m significantly richer than thou” Formerly mao99999 16 Focus RS Nitrous Blue. 11 FFRR TDV8 Vouge SE Black Black. 08 DEFENDER SVX SOFT TOP (SUPERB) 08 DEFENDER 110 DCPU Stornoway grey (Overland Exploration Unit) 05 Fiesta ST 150 Van 04 Jaguar XKR 4.2 Supercharged V8 02 DEFENDER 90 TD5 (next years soft top project) 95 DEFENDER 110 CSW 300 TDi Phoenix black 95 DEFENDER 90 HT Monti Carlo blue COUNTY 300 TDi 67 109" SERIES 2a TUNED 200 TDI 64 DAVID BROWN 990 rat look 55 86" SERIES 1 |

Decided on a tdi for her as it is simple and basic. She grew up with our Land Rovers so she knew what to expect! Our own 200tdi hit 30 years of age this year. As she lives away from home I wanted something that could be easily repaired if it went wrong.
She ran out of fuel owing to a worn out sender unit, since changed. The 90 was simple fuelled up, bled using the hand priming pump and fired first time. When the master light switch went it was quickly and inexpensively replaced. You cannot beat that. The 90 gets her to college, to work and she helps out on the farm where her partner works. She shifts bales and horsey stuff in it as she has a pony which she tows in a horse box with the 90. She loves it. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69772...aughter+90 https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72630...aughter+90 https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic76129...aughter+90 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai Last edited by spudfan on 5th Jul 2022 12:16am.
