I mean...like ive not fully pressed the clutch. Small crunch. I dont think its me but I cant rule it out.

this is something widely reported in the early puma days
what age and mileage are you at reducing slack in the drive line will reduce it changing gear more slowly will also reduce it there is a mod to fit additional locators in the gear selector making it better if your clutch is on the way out it can cause it clutch adjustment can be the cause (not fully clearing) thick carpets / mats can cause not fully clearing mine did it when new but fixing the above issues it now changes brilliantly in all gears a lot of drivers have found the 1st gear being so low is often not required, I pull away in 2nd most of the time when on road, probably easier on lighter 90s DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

The shift quality on my 2015 Defender improved considerably after a gearbox oil change. I also find that the shift quality improves as the gearbox warms up.
As has already been mentioned, most of the time I pull away in 2nd gear. I only use 1st on a slope, fully loaded, trailer etc. |
