Not wanting to teach you how to suck eggs nor dismiss your experience and prior knowledge.
I know my 110 had a bit of a squeal from it’s rear pads for a few hundred miles till the pad disc combo bedded in. Since then even with grooved and dimpled discs they are virtuality silent under even hard breaking. Thanks for being so understanding, I wish you luck in solving the issue.
If it helps EBC make a self adhesive heavy duty anti squeal shim / polymer sheet - Part Number: ASK4 - you need to cut to shape, scrape everything off the back of the pad, wire brush and apply. It's a last resort type of thing. EBC used to supply only of you had purchased pads/discs and had problems - theve become mercenary and now charge for them! Update:
Success!!!! finally! So, Delphi pads, with the shims still squealed... Not as bad as the ferodo ones had, but still annoying. So I went rummaging in my scrap pile and dug out the previous set of pads. These had a shim fitted, so I cleaned these up a bit, and fitted them as well as the ones that were already on the car. all back together (with a bit of wurth anti squeal spray and ceratec grease in the appropriate places) and under braking there is now glorious silence. Thanks all for your help on this, particularly BlackWolf who mentioned sometimes needing a 2 sets of shims .... With hindsight I presume that the original ferodo pads would be fine with suitable (or rather several) shims. So I'll keep them in stock and try them again when these ones wear down. |

By coincidence, I've just renewed the rear pads on my 110, for the second time in my ownership. Once again, I've used Borg & Beck pads, which I've found to be silent without any special preparation or additional shims.
