Setok - thanks for the info - unfortunately I couldn’t apply for the Circle K app from the U.K. but I’m sure we will when we get to Norway. I have downloaded a heap of apps and my various cards are registered for payment and also Hertz give us some sort of device to pay for road tolls and charging.
We haven’t got off to a great start - waiting in line to check in for the flight this afternoon and I got the dreaded Flight cancelled for today” text……. Now booked onto the morning flight tomorrow so hopefully that one will depart……… Having an unscheduled night in a hotel at the airport instead……good job the rental is booked from noon tomorrow for pick up - flight arrives at 1pm, Hertz already advised of our possible late arrival at the pick up desk. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

Seems that regardless of where you’re travelling at the moment flights are being cancelled at the drop of a hat.
I’m off to Wimbledon in July so it’s the train strikes I’m keeping an eye on. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |

Finally made it to Bergen on a very small ATP plane from Edinburgh but it was a very smooth flight…….. very quick baggage reclaim and also quick transit of immigration and customs. The to the Hertz counter to collect the car……………… or rather not to collect the car I had booked but a substitute Toyota Coralla Self Charging Hybrid Estate……….. not the EV I had booked as they had used up all their stock.
With petrol here £2.10p / 25NOK a litre we were a bit less than pleased but what to do as it was in their eyes an upgrade for free……. It’s actually quite a pleasant car to drive although the brakes are a bit lacking in bite and I have a low tyre pressure warning on the dash but we covered the 110 miles between Bergen and Forde in quiet comfort and the fuel gauge needle has just dropped a hairs breath off the full mark. It shuts the petrol engine down and runs in EV mode at the drop of a hat and it’s satnav works and the voice can be switched off rather than just the volume turned down same as my L663 Defender. It poured with rain the entire run up here to Forde and we passed through some amazing tunnels - one 4.8kms long and another over that. We also had our first experience of a fjord ferry - drive on, ANPR scans your number plate and charges your assigned credit card - CalMac should come and see how Norway runs its ferries! Road tolls are charged using the sam system. Tomorrow is Forde to Molde - about 170 miles including Geiranger Fjord’s numerous hairpin bends. So I’ll not be able to report on EV motoring n Norway unfortunately and will stop posting unless folks would like me to continue but from an ICE car point of view. We did Norway in '03 in a Discovery with Desert Wolf trailer. It's a fantastic place. We got bored of the tunnels and so when it came to Lærdal we went over the top instead. Pretty wild and snowy even in June! Darren

Yes still a lot of snow on the mountains - have driven Bergen to Forde and Forde to Molde. Today we have a shorter run (144 miles) from Molde to a village a couple of miles east of Trondheim called Malvik.
I have been using an EV trip planning app called A Better Route Planner which (apart from adding charging stops we no long need) is quite useful even for a fossil juice powered car. I must say thus Corolla Automatic (may be a CVT but not sure) is proving to be quite frugal as it it’s a self charging hybrid too and slips into EV mode at the drop of a trailing throttle or steep decline BUT even in B setting on the selector engine braking is feeble on the steep declines and it still shifts up to higher gears meaning heavy brake use. What a anazingly clean country - we haven’t seen a single piece of litter anywhere yet, the place is litter free it seems and we go out for walks to break the drives a bit and no sign at all of dog muck anywhere - and heated and spotless public toilets even out in remote lay bys although we did notice in one that the roll of toilet paper was chained and padlocked onto the holder (suspect to stop the motor home owners from removing it !). There are a lot of motorhomes (mostly Dutch and German) on the roads at the moment. Will add some more photos when I transfer them from my camera’s card to my iPad - this is the view from half way down a multi hairpin bend road between Forde and Molde yesterday. Did you get to drive the Atlantic road after leaving Molde?
If so, you would have been over the Storseisundet Bridge - that curved one off of the latest Bond film. |

We are doing part of that route tomorrow and Friday so will look out for the bridge.
So far we have stopped overnight at Forde, Molde, Malvik and now Namsos. The Toybota Corolla is proving to be a comfortable and economical travelling companion - I refilled the tank to the brim this morning and the last 436kms gave us an average cons of 4.9l/100km = 49mpg approx - it’s self charging hybrid system is paying dividends as petrol went up to £2.17 a litre yesterday. Today’s run - Malvik to Namsos Click image to enlarge Yesterday - Molde to Malvik Click image to enlarge Tuesday’s run Forde to Molde Click image to enlarge We encountered one of this fellows relatives grazing at the roadside on a forest track this afternoon but it disappeared into the woods before we could take a photo of him\ Click image to enlarge Today’s picnic lunch stop at a tranquil camp site where the only noise we heard all lunch time was birdsong Click image to enlarge This is a typical public loo site at the laybyes we have stopped in - usually spotlessly clean and warmly heated. Loos are unisex and disabled in one door and a urinal only in the 2nd door but all have a grass roof, some even have small trees growing in the grass. These laybyes also often have a recycling station for sorted garbage and a chemical toilet emptying tank (free to use too) Click image to enlarge Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. I might not have got the EV rental I wanted but on Thursday we drove part of the Atlantic Highway road E17 from Molde to Sandnessjoen and on 3 battery powered ferries.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Friday we did our longest bridge span on the Helgeland Bridge and our longest tunnels - one at 10.6km long and one at 8.7km long on our run up to Fauske and a weekend break from doing a long drive daily - we have a 32mile hop to Bodo today. Yesterday we entered the real north of Norway when we crossed the Arctic or Polar Circle too. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge It’s motoring home hell here - seen a few British registered ones but there are a lot of German and Dutch plated camper vans too. Cars were definitely in the minority in the car park at the Arctic Circle Centre! There are also huge numbers of motor bikes loaded up with tents and waterproof sports bags or panniers on the back - there were 2 U.K. registered bikes parked beside our car in the car park. Click image to enlarge So after the photos were taken and the tat / souvenir shop strolled through we moved 3 km down the road to have coffee from our flasks and sticky cakes bought from the supermarket in Sandnessjoen yesterday morning and share the picnic spot with one other car!
