Could be from the washer bottle. Might have a bad fitting top.If it happens only when it rains it could be the drain bung on the airduct doing it's job. Check your waser bottle when you stop, Run your finger around under the cap and see if it is wet. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Thanks, I wondered about the washer bottle - the drip seems further back than that though. No rain today.

I would say it is water trapped in the air ducting and splashing about until it escapes. Squeeze both rubber drain bungs or push a pencil up them to clear them. Hopefully that is all it is. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Thanks, appreciate this. Where are the drain bungs? Only does it when engine running though? "You know, Marge, mud is nothing more than wet dirt!" (Homer Simpson)

Run your hand under the black plastic air duct and you will feel them, or lie underneath and look up at the back of the wheel arch and you should see them. Cannot see it being coolant as the coolant bottle is on the otherside.Have you tried look up from underneath with the engine ticking over? Can't comment on possible air conditioning leak as I don't have that. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Thanks, I'll try that in the morning. I did try and look underneath with the engine running but couldn't spot anything amiss. "You know, Marge, mud is nothing more than wet dirt!" (Homer Simpson)

Have a look at the mudshield and see if you can spot the water travelling down that.Failing that put a piece of clingfilm over the washer bottle then close the cap. If that stops it, it is the washer bottle top. It then travellers down the inside of the mudshield and drips down. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I couldn't find the bungs, try as I might . However, water was splashed about in the vicinity of the washer bottle, so that might be the culprit. However, it only drips (quite a lot) when the engine is running and the engine is up to normal temp, so I suspect it's not that simple
A very careful taste test didn't suggest antifreeze. Somebody on another forum suggested the heater matrix, but I can't see this. Might be the air con I guess. Any idea how I can empty the washer bottle (without squirting it at the windscreen for hours) so I can see if this effects the leak? Thanks, Nick "You know, Marge, mud is nothing more than wet dirt!" If you put your left hand underneath the ducting and push it as far as you can towards the wing then move it towards the bulk head you will find them. It is possible to find them by lying underneath and looking up at the ducting infront of the heater matrix.
Like I said earlier if you open the washer bottle top and put cling film over the opening then close the top this will stop any leak from the top of the bottle. If this stops your leak then it is a faulty washerbottle top. Any drips I had were either caused by a faulty washerbottle top or blocked drain rubber bungs or teats. A squeeze should open them up but if they are tightly closed a they are new, a squeeze, then inserting a pencil opens them up. Someone that has airconditioning might be able to help with this as I do not have it fitted. No doubt you have checked your coolant level to see if it has dropped. I'd say if it was your heater matrix any leak would be easily visible. Sorry I cannot think of anything else. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Hi Spudman, I've just been out to the Landy - followed your expert advice and found one of the teats - gave it a squeeze and a shed load of water flooded out, so I guess this is the most likely cause of the drip, as you suggest
I'll take it out for a drive later, see if its cured and let you know Cheers, Nick "You know, Marge, mud is nothing more than wet dirt!" (Homer Simpson) |
