Genuine LED head lights
Hello
I am looking at a potential light upgrade for a defender 90.

I have the option of genuine Land Rover lights , these are off the adventure defender -model number LR06911

These are new and are around £1000, are they any good or is there better after market versions available

Realistically when you buy led lights most of us have to go on recommendation as we don’t get the opportunity to fit and compare lots of different types.

I have Trucklites which are superb but quite expensive at £700 a set, I know there are a few others members would recommend, but I would personally avoid the cheap Chinese ones off eBay unless you want to buy several sets to systematically replace them as they fail. Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

Orginal JLR LED headlights were by Nolden : https://www.noldengmbh.de/referenzen-e/cus...-headlight
You can get these in the UK via Brendon @ 4x4overlander.com - I think he is a forum sponsor or is active on this forum.

As others have said there is a lot of choice of LED headlights from unmarked, unapproved far east lamps to the cream of the crop JW Speaker's made in the USA with a full warranty, markings and approvals for on-road use.

JW Speaker's importer into the UK is MobileCenter (again I think he may be on this forum)

The other I would consider is LTPRTZ a mid to upper price/performance point light, designed in Germany, distrubuted in the UK by ORE 4x4

Hope this is of some help since I'm in the same situation looking for a set of headlights. Zaid-M

Just because they're reassuringly expensive doesn't mean they'll last any longer than the cheaper offerings, witness a couple of "premium" sets on here recently with one non-functioning light.
Remember you may need additional lighting to supplement the main beam, which anecdotal evidence on this forum suggests is inferior to incandescent bulbs, a popular reassuringly expensive option here is a big Lazer light bar.

I have one of these "cheap" angel eye 7inches LED sourced on Wish/Aliexpress mounted on my motorcycle. Absolutely perfect, no issue, 20'000 km in 3 years, all weather conditions including heavy rains of course. At a fraction of the genuine one price (20x Shocked) I really don't care if it fails... but it currently don't

I am guessing it’s a fairly easy job ?

Has anyone converted the rear lights to led too?

Keep in mind the genuine ones are 1000 pounds each. I made the mistake and ordered 1 (assuming it as a set). When the single light arrived, I had no choice but bit the bullet and get the matching second. Light quality is excellent (especially compared to stock), but not sure it is worth the money with many less expensive options out there

For every good experience like yours there are multiple (me included) bad ones, and the difference when you have two lamps compared to a motorbike single, is matching the good one up. If you can’t you have to buy a pair and start the whole process again Ride like you stole it!!

One of my Jw speakers failed so I replaced them with a £50 ebay pair. Theyve been fine for 2 years and I only replaced them as I got hold of a bearmach set cheap. The cheapos are on the shelf as spares now waiting for something else to fail Whistle

I had some cheapo chinese ones for 3 years on. I was quite happy at first as they were an improvement over the originals but over time, i did notice the quality of the light diminishing.

Two months ago, I bit the bullet and bought some Vision X Vortex ones for 900chf/700GBP.
The power, homogeneity of the spread of light and the cut off line are nearly as good as on a modern BMW/Audi/Merc, i'm really impressed.
While the added cost doesn't translate in the same multiplying factor in quality/light emitted over the chinese ones, they are a definite improvement, proving once again"buy cheap, buy twice" to be true.

Maybe contact "Thomas PerformanceUK" for some buying advice as he sells most available LED lights, chinese made and major brands. 110 HT TD5 w/ PopTop for travelling
