Being a 2013,I would think that your Defender is fitted with the black coloured 10AS which apparently is a disaster when compared to the previous green coloured one.
Try this link to Remote Key which explains a lot. https://remotekey.co.uk/land-rover-keys-re...larm-ecus/ Ian is extremely knowledgable and should be able to help. Bear in mind that they are very busy and may not get back to you straight away. From a previous conversation with Ian and if you suspect it is your 10AS that is faulty, I would first of all send it off to him for checking (about £45 which includes carriage back to you) and assuming that it is knackered, purchase one of their replacements, which is better designed, constructed and more reliable. The down side is they are just over £400, but would probably be worth it in the long run. How do you know that it’s the 10AS that’s the problem? |

Further to my last, I don’t know if an older version will work, but I’m sure that there will be somebody here who will know. |

I’m Presuming it’s the 10as.
I left work with no problems. Parked up at a shop and tried to lock using the fob without any response so I used the key and went to get some dog food and a fob battery. As I walked away it double beeped like a door had been left open on locking. On return Changed the battery and entered the car using the key. Still no response. I had the second key and fob brought to me without any response. I got it home by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting with ignition in the Ii position. Now it’s back to square one and won’t start |

the newer black box ones fail for fun more so if the battery goes flat.
yes you can use an earlier green one if you can find one to the same spec eg central locking just needs programing |

Check the earthing points k108 and 109 and spray some WD40 on them as a short term solution. I had the same problem as you about a week ago and did that and it fired into life. 108 is behind the expansion tank and 109 I think is on the opposite side of the bulkhead.
Let us know how you get on. |

Check fuse F9, 20amp under dash.
It could be a door wiring loom fault, very common issue. See https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56085...automobile |

I had this issue last week after my daughter decided to use the key-fob buttons as a piano.
Neither key-fob worked, central locking wouldn't work, engine immobilised. Got it going with the Nanocom but in the end it was the 20 amp fuse under the seat that had blown, Number 7, worth a look if you haven't already checked. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve tried all to no avail. Mine is the ALM unit so it’s likely it’s died. So I’m now on the hunt for a usable 10as that will work with a 2.2.
