I assume the below oil leak is a failed "hub seal"? If so, could someone point me in the direction of an idiots guide to fixing?

Hub oil seal failure spews oil over the back of the wheel and brakes. Your issue is the dust cap as has been said above.

OK, that seems simple enough then! Just fit new caps. They are very perished.
Thank you. ![]() MY2012 110 2.2TDCi XS SW Orkney Grey - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43410.html MY1990 110 200TDi SW beautifully faded Portofino Red - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post743641.html#743641 MY1984 90 V8 Slate Grey - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post744557.html#744557 Instagram @suffolk_rovers |

You should have not fitted those wheels
![]() Would have saved you the damage to the caps. ![]() 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

A tip for fitting the new ones. These can sometimes split when being pushed on the first time, they are quite tight. To avoid this I find it helpful to drop them into a jug of hot water first to soften the plastic a bit.

Could also be the drive flange gasket.
If buying new hub caps make sure you buy genuine ones, the aftermarket types are very hard and inflexible plastic. |

Think I have been cursed by posting in this thread!!!
Just noticed this afternoon that one of the front caps has started spitting oil. Luckily I had a final spare in the parts box (a cheap aftermarket one) but as the engine was nice and warm just sat it on top of the thermostat housing for 10 minutes before easily popping it on in place of the perished original. ![]() |
