Starting issues the saga continues
So in trying to sort erratic starting issues have so far replaced earth cables new battery new ignition switch and finally new starter last week seemed fine after new starter started first turn for a full week but today went to start and just click click click checked. Battery OK is it possible I've got duff starter with bad solenoid. Or maybe I not tightened cables on starter enough. Losing the will now been trying to get reliable start for a year now. Any thoughts? Endeavour To Persevere

Update. Just got in from work and tried starting she fired straight up so sill got an erratic issue so to recap she has been poor at starting of and on for a year then wouldn't start at all dead so replaced initio switch no difference so new starter seemed sorted now erratic starter though brand new. Losing faith keep having to get lift to work when she fails Endeavour To Persevere

Check main grounding points on the transfer box, often get left loose if any work can be done.
If it’s a Puma, VCV will cause cutting out and I would imagine if it gets bad could be problematic to start.
The VCV won’t put up and fault codes at all ever, so this is a point worth bearing in mind.

The CPS is another culprit but is much much less common than the VCV.
Also ignition but again more rare than VCV.

Cleaning the MAP and MAF sensors is worth doing too, if they are originals I’d consider replacing them.
This is based on a Puma though. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Disable the passive immobilizer and see if that changes anything.

Stick a new battery in the handset and do the learning procedure that is in the handbook. It will be a cheap fix if it works. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

110 Iain have a read of this https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic47486...p;start=90 , worth reading the whole topic, but page 7 , at the bottom, post from Martin explains a possible cause and solution, plus a way to test if that is the issue before cutting and joining wires or getting the instrument pack repaired.

My passive immobiliser occasionally catches me out on my Puma, how do you disable it? Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…
