Rust prevention side effect

In an attempt to slow down the dreaded tin worm, I recently sprayed copious amounts of ACF50 around the underside of my Defender, including all the suspension bits. Yes, I did mask off the brake bits.

The strange side effect is that the ride has improved, it's less jiggly and rides short bumps better. It's not my imagination, my wife has also noticed the difference. She accused me of fitting the Fox dampers I've been going on about. My only guess if that the ACF50 has crept into the bushes and allowed them to move more freely. Anyway, I like it and will continue to spray copious quantities of ACF50.

ACF 50 is good, but I’d keep it off anything rubber where possible.

ACF50 is excellent. I love it. I over-use it…

If in doubt about its magical powers just research it’s use in the aeronautical industry or biking (of the motorised type) community - and of course the Defender community.

As Steve says, it’s wise to try not to saturate old or natural rubber. Technically ACF50 doesn’t have a negative effect on ‘new’ rubber or polyurethane, but it can have some unhelpful impact on older natural rubber. Same as oil and grease really.

Occasional overspray won’t hurt.

And yes I too have had a similar effect of ‘quieter’ and ‘softer’ ride when I’ve applied it (not always deliberately) on or around my polyurethane bushes - and not a Fox shock in sight. 👍

Do you use the liquid acf? if so what do you spray with?

Yes I use the 1 litre bottle from the usual sources. I put it a small trigger pull garden sprayer. It takes a bit of adjustment of the jet to get a spray.

As I have a compressor I’m considering using a Schutz gun or a high volume spray gun as an alternative.

I’ve only ever used the aerosol, plus the brown internal Dinitrol and external black wax.

I might get a 5 litre tub and give the garden sprayer a go ...must be the cheapest option if you an manage to get a good spray pattern.

Exactly the same Steve - 3 good things 👍

With ACF50 I only use the 13oz spray can. The 5l tin would be more economic but it’s not as convenient - especially if like me you are always noticing something that could ‘do’ with a bit of ACF50 when you are getting in and out

Is ACF50 the same thickness as Lanoguard? If so a decent squirts bottle will be enough to apply it. I was going to purchase some Lanoguard but see that their prices have jumped recently.
