Optimill reversing camera/number plate installation issues.
Hi, just wondering if anyone can help please? I've undertaken what I thought was going to be an easy task in installing a reversing camera to my defender, but for some reason I cannot get it to work and keep blowing reversing light fuses.
I had no issues running the cable or fitting the head unit end. I used a piggy back adaptor to connect pos and new to reversing light, and just swapped out the number plate light. However, the reversing light stopped working and camera doesn't work. Checked the reversing light in another socket and it works fine. I tried disconnecting the camera and piggy back wiring first, but the reversing light still wouldn't work it was only when I plugged the original number plate light back in that my reversing light started to work again. Tried leaving original number plate light connected and connect camera again reversing fuse blew.
Might be worth mentioning that all lights other than number plate are lLED.

Any suggestions and solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a crossed wire. The number plate connector is totally seperate from the camera unit.

Will the led light on the number plate work if that’s the only thing plugged in.

Then try disconnecting the feed at head unit and plug in the piggy back loom to the camera.

On the head unit you should be able now to select the camera and if you put it in gear it should work (won’t work out of gear as no power to it without reverse light)

If that’s all ok then you plug the red wire into the reverse connector on head unit it’s the head unit causing the circuit to blow.

What head unit is it?

I did mine a few weekends ago. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details
