It could be the seal on the oil filler cap on top of the engine. This can weaken over time and you will get oil residue blowing out. If you take off the rubber cover you will get a better view. Oil could be coming out through the bad seal and travelling under the cover to where you see it. A new cap can be purchased inexpensively on line. You could clean up the oil on the engine using "GUNK" from Halfords then fit the new cap. If the new oil filler cap stops the oil you will see no more on the side of the engine. It is an inexpensive way to eliminate one possible source. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
