Bubbles in coolant... Oh dear...
Hi folks, have been experiencing slight coolant loss for some time. Found and fixed more than a few leaks, but it still persists. I have sniff tested ages ago and it came back negative. Thing is, I am usually working on my own, and today with a friend applying light throttle I could see an increase in bubbling. Honestly it looks like a blow at the head gasket. Is there anything else that might cause this? It is running so well, plenty of power, decent fuel economy.... oh dear.

Sniff tested again and all comes up clear. I will isolate the egr cooler later on. Sounds like a good shout.

Did you locate the issue, was it the EGR cooler?

Check back in two weeks and I will update the thread. I have ordered an egr cooler. I have spoken to a mechanic who reckons he had seen more headgaskets changed on transits needlessly because of the egr cooler. Another who works at Ford reckons the sniff test won't show up a small headgasket leak. That blick tester has never been wrong in the past. I almost wish it wasn't running so well. I won't tackle the headgasket, last one I did was 20 years ago on an E36 Beemer and I never really trusted it after! I do less and less work for myself the older I get. I have a restoration project, and found myself at the land rover more ifyrn rgan it! Local lad who work's on Defenders (but doesn't really like anything post td5) has agreed to take it on, but is telling me 'don't fix it, if it ain't broken'....
