Hi all,
I plan on doing a basic service on MY15 Defender. One of the jobs is to swap out the fuel filter. I’ve seen contradictory messages about that the new filter needing to be filled with diesel prior to install. Is there a definitive view on the issue? |

unsure about the 2.2 but for a 2.4 genuine all in for£100 why wouldn't you.

No need to do anything with the 2.2. Just replace the fuel filter dry, then prime it by turning the ignition key to position two. The fuel pump will run for 5 to 10 seconds. I usually repeat this cycle eight times.

That’s not bad at all, considering the fuel filter alone is £50’ish! 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS. |

The original post is for a 2.4 which does not have a lift pump. You need a tool to prime the lines after changing the fuel filter on a 2.4. The factory tool is $$$ but there are cheap knock offs about. Some come without an air bleed which , of course, is required. Pretty easy to add one but try to get a tool with one already in place.
