Great shots Tim, how beautiful the desert is this time of the year, particularly after all the rain we had out there...
O and when I mean rain, I mean about 2 pints of rain for the year... (for the Mother Landers) Hope the Puma showed up the toyo's, what am I saying off course it did!!! |

absolutely brilliant pictures tim.
i travelled along the oodnadatta truck through the moon plains and the painted desert back in 1995; but we came up from adelaide, heading for uluru, so we carried on to william creek and not birdsville. i've got a video of tom Kruze doing his weekly postal trip up the birdsville track in the 1950's - more impressive than camel trophy. cheers for bringing back happy memories |

Thanks for the comments everyone!
There's been a bit of rain over there, we couldn't see the desert for the scrub! But it was beautiful with the wildflowers. The Puma did well against the Toyos, (there were 2 LC105 Saharah's, a 75 series tray back, a 79 series tray back, and a Samyonnonoyong..... Muso). There was a fair bit of ribbing about LR reliability from the 79 Series owner. I did ask him why he had old cart style springs in the back of his wagon, to which he assured me that they were as good as coils..... I found this strange as after the first day in the rough stuff he asked me to carry the remainder of his unbroken bottles of wine and undamaged food. I did have to comment when the tray back cruisers had to stop to put their hubs in; "Oh how quaint, thats just like my 1974 Series 3". Out of all the vehicles the Puma was the first and only vehicle to climb "Big Red" (Really big sand dune if you've not heard of it) on its first attempt. Tom Kruse is certainly a legend in Central Australia, the Birdsville track wasn't too bad as it had been graded recently, but the Oodnadatta track was shocking. |
