Defender in France
Hi - new member so apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Taking the 110 across France this summer and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for insurance providers or any general tips as this is the first time with the Defender.

Thanks!

Your general insurance should cover you as standard. You may have to let them know. Or are you talking about recovery service, just incase?

Get your crit air sticker from official website. Comes by post so do it early before travelling. Don’t use a secondary website. Usual cost was about €4 last time I did it some websites charge up to €15
Get a toll tag- having to wake the passenger at toll stations at 3:am is never good
Avoid cities

We use Boundless/LV and get a big discount on European breakdown cover. If you are x services or civil servant. They also cover big vehicles within their cover, which includes our motorhome which is a big bonus for us.

my breakdown insurance (now AA european) comes with my Nationwide bank account. No vehicle age restrictions.

@s55ssh.

Just been reading this on another forum, and don’t know if it effects you or not.

“ Our MH accident Insurance is with Advance but because we dont have Breakdown cover also with them they understandably dont cover repatriation of the vehicle in my circumstances.
Our Breakdown cover is with Nationwide as part of having Flex Plus account.
And up to March this year cover was provided by Brittania who definately did offer repatriation of MH if the main driver was unable to continue due to accident or illness.
However on the 1st March 2022 the AA took over after winning the tender process with a new set of terms that DONT include repatriation. I only found this out yesterday and dont recall Nationwide flagging this up.
So for anyone using their Nationwide Flex Plus acc to cover Euro breakdowns etc here is a salutary lesson and something to bear in mind.”

What is covered - Section 7 – Vehicle recovery to the territory
or onward to original destination
The cost of the unaccompanied recovery of
your vehicle, if repairs cannot be completed in
time for your planned return home to a single
destination being either:
a. Your permanent home address; or
b. Your nominated vehicle repairer in the
territory; or
c. Your original destination within the
geographical limits.

What is not covered - 1. Recovery costs if you have not agreed with
us in advance, the method of recovery.
2. Recovery of your vehicle if we calculate the
cost to do so is in excess of its market value
(see General exclusion 11)
3. Recovery where your vehicle only needs
minor or inexpensive repairs, costing
£500 or less, inclusive of VAT. (We may
agree collection or an alternative means
for you to return home with your vehicle in
these circumstances if repairs cannot be
completed by your booked return date).
4. Recovery where the local garage indicates
that it can complete repairs before your
return date.
5. Recovery costs for your vehicle if nobody in
your party is fit to drive.
6. Repatriation costs for you or your party if
nobody in your party is fit to drive.
7. Any losses resulting from a delay in
recovering your vehicle.
8. The cost of additional transit risk insurance.
you should contact your motor vehicle
insurer to ensure that your existing policy
covers this.
9. The replacement cost of your vehicle or any
salvage money if your vehicle is beyond
commercial economic repair.
10. Transportation costs for a repaired vehicle.

So it’s this bit that has caused his issue.

6. Repatriation costs for you or your party if
nobody in your party is fit to drive.

Where it is covered with LV.

Ah ok. I'll cope with that and get it collected by another driver if need be.
