If you go for a digital amp they don’t really get hot. Cost more but also smaller as a rule. I have mine on the bulkhead behind the seats, but that won’t work for you. The alternative is make your own sub enclosure and put it on the back ??

Not got an amp yet, but I too was going to place in the battery box under the passenger seat. Seems an ideal place out of the way.

Mine will be in the seat box not decided yet with battery or with the fuses Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Depending on what you have under your driver's seat you could put it there with a bit of work. I manufactured a sunken box to put my sub in. My tank is under this seat so it was a bit tight but it fitted perfectly. If you don't have a tank then there could potentially be lots of space.

Lots of excellent 4 channel amps around. Some even allow bridging two channels to power a sub. probably have a smaller footprint than an older Rockford. 2011 130 Utility Body

I have a hertz Hdp4 and HDP1 both either side of the sub in the boot. hdp1 powering a HX380D sub, and the HDP4 doing all 4 speakers.

If anybody wants a Hetz HE4 amp, and also a sub in a box let me know, as I’ve got both that I’m fed up with taking room up in the garage. Can’t be arssed to post, so collect only. If not will end up in the bin.

On the lower part on the bulkhead behind the seats for me. I used to have it in the battery box but I did get concerned about water ingress etc. I used to have a budget alpine amp but switched to an alpine pdx-v9 and it’s simply incredible the difference. I can’t recommend it enough, it probably one of the best sound systems I’ve ever heard now. Will have to try and get a picture for you.

In my 110 DCPU its mounted on the rear bulkhead behind the rear seats.
In my 90, bulkhead behind the seats. Mate of mine used a cubby lock and mounted it under the cubby box. Instagram @defender_ventures Empire Tuning - Agent |

I built a wooden box up in the back of the roof (done this on the past few defenders I've had), full width of the roof, following the profile of it, and qbout 12" deep. Into which are a pair of trusty 6x9's, so a nice bass box if you will.
Inside this box I've also got a couple of amps mounted (one for the 6x9s and another for the bass unit mounted on the back floor) probably not to everyones taste as it takes up valuable room in the back, but mine only carries off road kit and a second spare wheel in the back, so no issue there. Does sound good mind! |

Mine lives in the electrical department below the driver's seat, beneath the rail that holds the ECU (Td5).

I have what I think is the simplest and smallest (in size) power Amp available on the market: the Alpine KTP-445A. I have it hidden directly inside the dash, secured in a recess.
https://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/SingleView/KTP-445A I inititially installed it as a temporary-cheap solution to drive new Focal ES100K (front) and PC130 (rear) untill I decide on a bigger amp setup and location. That was 3 years ago. Happy with it so far, does the job and what it says on the box, and I don't plan to upgrade it in a near future. /Mat |
