Having just finished converting my interior to 'just about XS spec', fitting electric windows, central locking and heated leather seats I'd hold out for an XS spec purchase !
I DIY'd it all, and it is time consuming, plus of course the parts prices. That said, I fully sqound deadened the interior and doors whilst I was at it, which has made a great difference. At purchase I was after a low mileage Double Cab pick up Puma, which hadn't been worked hard, so my choices were limited and the right one came up that wasn't an XS so I went for it. I'd expect there are more 90's available to choose from. As has been said, you'll never change the 'XS' on the logbook, and an original one will always be worth more. The AC is expensive ( around £2k in parts ) to retrofit, and a big labour job, so if that's on you're wishlist that would make the decision for me. Hope that helps. Tony |

In my opinion, it's the Aircon that really makes or breaks it. If you want one with aircon, it'd need to be really cheap to buy one without and convert.
The rest of it is easier, and can be done in stages depending on your priority. When I bought mine, I made sure it had aircon, and the rest was a bonus. It has electric windows and central locking. But I will fit a heated screen and heated seats at some point, mostly fitting in with any other work (sound deadening) that I'll do. Of course, if you really do want all the XS features, then buying and converting an example without any of them, seems rather a long way round. Even if it does save a little. I agree that XS on the logbook is more desirable than a converted non-XS, but there's plenty of cars advertised as 'XS Spec' and they don't seem to be significantly (or any?) cheaper than 'real' XS cars. The advert and actual sale prices may differ of course, but that's the same with all vehicles. IMO, buy on condition (with consideration for aircon). I'd far rather have a really good example that I need to upgrade a bit, rather than a rough 'high spec' XS. |
