Hello. This is a well known problem and is a fairly easy DIY fix. Just take a little bit of tool juggling.
Everything you need to know is here - http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Fan_bearing.html Excellent instructions. When I did this I left the bearing in the freezer for about an hour which allowed it to slide easily in to the aluminium housing. Leave it to warm up slowly over night then finish the install when everything is back up to temp. When you get the old bearing out you will find that it is dry as a bone, hence the bearing rattle or grumble. |

Thank you the reply. Followed the instructions and fitted a new SKF bearing today.
Unfortunately there is still a rattle when you hold the pulley and move it as you would to check a wheel bearing. So it's not the bearing, checked the pulley for cracks and it looks fine. It's only a slight movement but I guess there shouldn't be any, bit annoying as it seems I changed it for no reason . BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |
