Door Hinges
It's now high time I replaced all the hinges on my 08 110.

I was considering brushed stainless, but not sure if it will look silly against an all santorini black vehicle?

Looking at the powerful UK ones as they are reasonable price for stainless, but not sure if it's worth it, rather than getting some standard ones and having them painted?

Thoughts and opinions please! North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

Your original ones have lasted 13 years. I would stick with LR hinges painted to body colour, unless you really like the stainless contrast.

1. Yes, it will look silly (as does all the other bling people stick on their trucks).

2. "Your original ones have lasted 13 years... stick with LR hinges painted to body colour"

I replaced one (possibly two, I can't remember to be honest) on my last one, so cheap with a bit of spray paint I can't recall the cost. I'd certainly remember the price of stainless steel ones, and still be bitching about the waste of money.

Did the same with Miffy a few years ago. All four doors, some Upol paint in a rattle can. Job done Thumbs Up

I did modify the hinge first with a small hole through to the hinge pin. Periodically go around and grease them all. Interested to see if this prolongs their life and thought heck why not.

I replaced my Td5 hinges about 7 years ago with croytec units. They still look new, quality products.

I’m looking at stainless but then potentially getting them painted to colour match the car. Don’t like the idea of the aluminium billet ones that might discolour. I’ve done this for the window blocks and had them painted.

Mine are 7 years old and looking tatty. Personally I’d prefer to do the job once and then forget about it but each to their own.

Best of luck

Andy

The billet aluminium ones are fine for painting if done correctly - I did that to the Gore bonnet hinges and they look great, better than the rest of the car to be honest Laughing

I'm just now waiting for them to get their door hinges back in stock to repeat the exercise...

I love the GORE stuuf. I have their bulkhead brackets and bonet hinges, and I am also waiting for their doors hinges to be in stock. It seems to have been a while since they had them though.

Cheers

This was the last correspondence I had with Gore last time I chased them up for timings back in September..

We are still not happy with the quality of finish of the outsourced parts.
Machine shop blames anodisers, anodisers blame machine shop, its quite a headache at present.
All our trials are with bonnet hinges as they are the cheapest items to scrap off.
I don't want to make any promises on timing as I don't want to let people down.
This is going on far longer than i envisaged.
Regards
Dave...

I've been waiting since March and will continue to wait as I think their products are top notch and no one else seems to sell security hinges that I like the look of Big Cry

door hinge fix
I am trying to find out if its possible to knock the hinge pin out of the center of the hinge and replace it with a stainless pin? Has anyone ever tried this fix? (defender 90- 1994)
thanks
