Would be interesting to understand how the center of gravity on the Defender changed over the course of time.
Puma engines are sitting quite high in the engine bay, especially when compared to early vehicles, especially series engines where you would have to dive into to engine bay to perform maintenance. On a series, the engine crank is in line with the bumper (starting handle hole in bumper). When the coil sprung models were introduced, the starting handle hole moved up in the radiator panel, so engines sitting a few inches higher. One can argue that since the Defender era, they all got aluminium heads, so less weight at the top end of the engine. Side slopes are always my biggest fear. Would be good to know how a Puma ranks against the older models, as I see Landrover has been reducing the max slope angle over the years. Maybe to avoid liability. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |
