its and easy job and assuming the drive flange has no rust or wear just a seal should be enough to complete the job.
It is recommended however that you replace the prop shaft bolts and nuts and the drive flange retaining nut. Word of caution scotch the wheels as the hand brake becomes inoperative when you remove the prop shaft bolts and you may also want to put it in diff lock before you remove the prop so the hand brake works through the front wheels. You can clean the area where the seal sits on the flange shaft with some fine wet/dry paper if it shows signs of corrosion.

It is also possible to use a "Speedi Sleeve" to repair the flange, although if it has deteriorated to the point of making this necessary a new flange is probably a better bet.
Be careful with replacement flanges though. I had a problem some time back with a non-genuine (but not Britpart) aftermarket flange supplied by an extremely reputable supplier which continued to leak after I had fitted it with a new seal. Upon investigation I could that the machined land for the seal was out-of-round by several thousands of an inch, which prevented the seal from sealing. This was completely invisible to the naked eye, it looked perfect. The extremely reputable dealer supplied a genuine LR flange free of charge as a replacement (which solved the problem). The dilemma as usual comes from the fact that a genuine flange is about ten times the price of a typical, supposedly-reasonable, aftermarket flange, and it is very hard to bring yourself to buy a part at such an absurd price. |

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully it will be OK, but if not I will take your advice and bite the bullet to go genuine I have gone down that path before for many little parts like this and although a strain on the pocket, it does pay dividends in the long run. My list of 'things to do' is getting longer!! Thanks again. |
