Warning light help
I’ve got a warning light on. The machine says it’s oil contamination. This came on after 10k miles since a service. We changed the oil and filter and the rest of the service items. Within a 100 miles the light has come back on. Thoughts greatly appreciated.

It’s a 2014 2.2 with 141k on the clock. Always regular services.

A couple of questions.
1. Is it the “oil service” message that’s appeared on the dash ?
2. When you say the machine says oil contamination, what do you mean? Is it due to point 1 above and you have deducted that this has come on due to the oil being contaminated.
3. How high is the oil on the dipstick, is it way above the max mark?

In either case have a read of https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic74776...il+service

By machine I mean the reader you plug in.

The light is the check engine not the oil service light

"the reader" ? This https://www.defender2.net/forum/post473767.html ?
Maybe the oil service message wasn't reset (properly) after oil change?

This is how to
1. Turn ignition ON, press both brake and accelerator pedal full down for 15 seconds
2. Oil light starts to flash
3. Turn ignition OFF, release pedals and leave it for a minute or two
4. Turn ignition ON to see if message has gone
Might only work on third attempt or so.

It's intresting you had the check engine light on, though.

Very interesting, as macfrank states, did you go through the oil counter reset procedure.
If not my deduction is that the counter has still been running, the ECU is unaware that the oil has been changed, it was going to trigger an oil service light but now thinks the 7% threshold has been passed so has registered a DTC and illuminated the check engine light.
Given you have changed the oil only a 100miles ago Clearing the DTC with your OBD2 scanner and then going through the oil counter reset procedure should rectify the situation.

As far as I understand there is no device that is actually measuring the dilution of the oil due to Active DPF regenerations. It’s a calculation undertaken by the ECU, therefore I can’t think of any other reason for the DTC to have been triggered than the oil counter reset not being undertaken.

Ps Prior to your oil change did the oil service message come up at all ?

Ironically the Ford Transit has the same issue and resolve.

If the service light isn’t illuminated at service it doesn’t get reset, then post service when it illuminates it has to be reset after which can throw the service alignment out.

Technology that is there to help can sometimes hinder but some people need a prompt Thumbs Up Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

Sounds a plan. I’ll get it reset again on Monday and see how we go.

Thanks for the advice
