I know I have a Femco plug fitted to my 300Tdi and I’m pretty sure it’s a compact one. If the standard one fits I can’t understand the confusion over whether a compact one would work?
Have you been in touch with www.drain plug.co.uk ? They supply Femco stuff. I found them really helpful on the phone. If you do fit one, also get the length of pipe to direct oil flow into your container. Mess and stress free. I got one with a magnetic end to it (I think! memory’s not what it was!) so as my engine’s relatively recently rebuilt I’ll probably take it out the first few times just to check swarf etc, but taking it out once the sump is empty is a much easier prospect. I’m mentally scarred from undoing a V8 drain plug once, not expecting the oil to shoot out sideways, hit the chassis leg and ‘starburst’ all over the place. Killed the flowerbed and the boss wasn’t happy. Now I take extreme precautions to keep things neat and tidy. Femco? Good to know - thanks!
I think I'm going to go ahead and give it a try. Might also look at getting the magnet version to give it a check every few years. Cheers Jim 300 TDi 110 CSW |

Don't get too hung up about standard Femco plug on a 300TDi, I have had one fitted since 2004 and it has never been an issue.
The local main dealer managed to strip the sump-plug at the initial 500M service so I immediately replaced it with the Femco plug (marketed by Difflock) and it has been there ever since. ONE LIFE, GET IT! |
