Diff and Transfer box flanges
I need to replace the propshaft UJ's on my 2.2 110 and am wondering whether it would be a good idea to replace the diff and transfer box flanges whilst the props are off?

The plan is to buy the uprated UJ's from Gwyn Lewis and I would buy Gwyn Lewis flanges as well.

Am I just wasting my money replacing the flanges as well?

Can’t think of a reason to change the flanges, unless you’ve done something to them.

To be honest I’m surprised you’re needing new props.

Thanks - I won't bother with the flanges.

The reason for thinking of doing the UJs was that I have replaced the half shafts with Lof solid ones and have also replaced the a frame ball joint. So thought the UJs would be the next thing to look at, to help reduce the clunking noise on gear changes.

Be sure you get precisely the correct UJ’s if you do get some more, for the props you have.

You can change them, but they can be a pain, it’s faster and easier to buy a new prop, the downside is the extra cost.
GKN branded UJs are good, factory props are Hardy Spicer I believe, if you want to splash out Gwyn does some nice HD props as well.

If you are getting a bit of clunking check for fretting (wear) of the rear drive shafts and flanges, as well as the front. No Guts, No Glory.

I would not change the UJ´s unless they are worn out. Nvertheless you can easily replace them using some basic tools (check any youtube video). Most slack, in your case with new halfshafts, likely comes from the central diff at the transfer case. Depending on mileage, oil type and driving style, the thrust shims may be worn out or gone. Puma 110" SW

If they are not leaking oil leave them alone. If you replace the flange replace the seal as well, and if you do this (especially with aftermarket parts) it is distinctly possible that you will introduce a leak where there was none before.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it!

Many Thanks all. I'll have a look at the UJs in more detail to work out if they do need replacing and I think I'll leave the flanges alone!

I think Hardy Spicer is a GKN brand
