FYI.
The 10AS or ALM module can be seen if you remove the drivers footwell speaker and look upwards. Green if 10 AS, black if ALM. https://blackbox-solutions.com/help/SM031.html |

I am not familiar with 1998 era models.. but later models, the Purple/White is coming from the 10AS, and the solid Purple is fused directly from the battery. Earth is going to a ground, somewhere. You say "got 12v to the purple/white wire and earth"... given that you have 12V on the earth black wire, then you have a broken earth. You should measure 0V on the black wire (so you actually get 12V across the bulb. Perhaps you can test a piece of extra wire, connect it on black and ground it somwhere. By the sound of it, that should power up the interior light when any door is open or you unlock the Defender. The solid Purple wire should always have 12V on it.. so that you can switch on the interior light anytime you wish. This should be fused, check the fuses on the transmission tunnel. Sorry, I do not know which one would that be, but usually there is a label, and should indicate which one is for the interior light. Hope this helps somehow. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

check the connector in the roof headlining, it will be a little further back from the light somewhere, its like a five pin connector. ( that also bridges the rear light i believe) That could be rotten, It happened on my 300 Tdi, we could not work out why we were getting power to the driver side window screen post, but not further up to the light. after i had a feel around, i found a connector that was rotten, We cut the connector off, ( not really my idea) My dad made another loom up and it was working. So it may need a bit of a clean, i think you can get a replacement loom too. I have a spare rear one in storage Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |
