I had the opposite recently, wouldn't turn on, try spraying some WD40 on the key and wiggle it.

Stall it.
My key some times gets stuck. I just push it in further then it will turn. |

AA came and I had tried the WD40 without any luck. The AA bloke managed to get the key out but the fun started when I realised that the Puma needed shifting and you guessed it, after putting the key back in it would not kick on. No dashlights or anything. So we got her pushed out of harms way and managed to get the key out again. The AA man is a local non Land Rover maindealer so he will order in the necessary on Monday and do the repairs when the replacement arrives. Ignition key had been a little sticky at times but I never thought much of it.Seems if the key can turn it is not as bad as if there is no movement in it-repair wise.
The wife was away today with two kids and it could have been worse. It decided to play up when she got home so I am thankful for that. He attended to the same problem with a Volvo 4WD not so long ago. First major problem we had with the 2008 Puma. Thanks for the prompt suggestions. The moral of the story being: if your ignition key is anyway sticky get it seen to immediately. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Get it seen to within the warranty. Any humming and hawing from the maindealer tell him my story. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

They usually recommend a dry graphite lubricant for ignition barrels. Not sure as I've not come across the issue before.

Actually, there is a new TSB on TOPIx about this dated 19 October 2011 (LTB00414/201) instructing change of the ignition switch.

Any chance someone with access to Topix can post the TSB here?

Part arrived in the garage this evening. If they do not get it done tomorrow it will be Tuesday at least owing to the Bank Holiday this weekend.Part was due in yesterday but the maindealer did'nt send it down yesterday with the motor factor van. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Years ago my old man told me never to use oil in key inserts to locks, as it is moist any dirt introduced into the tumbler section of the lock by the key would accelerate wear or cause problems if left as a dry residue. This applied to every lock he came across and if he didn't have any graphite powder he would rub the key with a soft pencil and work that into the lock, very rarely did we have frozen locks in winter!
