Puma mods & maintenance - Stagshaw, generally good
Hi folks, just had a load of work on my Puma 110 finished. After advice on here, and struggling to find anywhere local to York I took it up to Stagshaw in Gateshead. It ended up needing two stints up there in the end - it took longer to get the work done than we all expected.

The good

Friendly, personable, honest guys with good customer service on the whole, at reasonable rates.
Generally a decent standard of work, although clearly pushed for time.
Tried to put things right if / when they didn’t go to plan.
Offered something by way of extra for inconvenience when it didn’t go to plan (MOT / service / discount).
Had an issue when it was returned where the horn sounded when locking vehicle with fob / unlocked itself immediately when using key. They sorted this free of charge during the second stint, even though it could well have had nothing to do with them.
Good installation of double din and relocation of switches (DAB radio reception terrible but think that’s a function of the new JVC head unit and aerial).
Good installation of National Luna split charge system and Numax leisure battery (just had to increase gauge of wire on second visit to rear power sockets to overcome volt drop, and tidy up wiring in battery box).
Smart installation of rear scene lights (although noisy relay which I though I’d quietened down by pushing connectors in further, it’s since gone noisy again).
As far as I can tell, decent installation of LOF one piece output shaft, sound proofing (it’s certainly quieter!), Optimill rear view camera, new steering damper, discs and pads.
Bits of Dinitrol I can see look well applied (although hadn’t removed bumper to apply to front of chassis rails during first stint, this was done on the second stint).
They sorted a couple of other small issues without charging for them.
Sorted me a decent courtesy car for the second stint they had the vehicle, and dropped me off at the train station after the first drop-off.
They dropped off the 110 after the first stint and picked it up for the second stint.

The not so good

Had the 110 for longer than originally planned on first stint (17 days Vs 10) and didn’t get through work intended, leaving things unfinished and having to go back. Had it 5 weeks in total, we’d intended it to be 2 weeks.
Swivels had been filled with oil rather than grease, which then leaked out of ABS sensor holes and was splashed around.
Front bumper hadn’t been removed to apply Dinitrol inside front of chassis rails.
Didn’t have time to fit cruise control during the first stint, then didn’t have the right kit in for the second stint and said suppliers were out of stock, I ordered it from Conrad Anderson and sent it up there for fitting. Then it turned out that a component was missing from the kit so could not be installed (not Stagshaw’s fault, but could maybe have been sorted if we’d realised earlier).

So in summary, my view is they’re a great bunch of guys, who on the whole produce good results, and the issues are symptomatic of a business that has the right intentions and good people but is growing and stretched.

Cheers, Matt

I had a very similar experience with Stagshaw back in June and August, trying to get work done that was planned for 1 week. Matt's summary is the same as mine.
