TD5 MT82 and puma Dash, can it get any harder?
I did it now, I tried all I could to get the aircon in my td5 dash to work properly, but i failed. So i purchased a Puma dash with aircon. and not only did i find a lot of parts missing, but the drivetrain has to move backwards fr it all to fit.

Before i converted the R380 to a MT82 and did a TC ratio change from 1.211 to 1.1. It ran perfect for my application. Had plenty of room to shift and reach all the needed buttons...First was a peach in traffic, and it towed my toys around with ease.

Now with the Puma dash i will need to move the engine, gearbox and TC to the back 20-30mm. I will need a new front Propshaft, and possibly a rear one as well, but hope i dont. Its a lot of work to remove the airbags, and springs to calculate the min and max.

Has anyone ventured down this gnarly path before? Or am i the only one dense enough to? Can't leave well enough alone

A couple shops have figured out adapters to relocate the shifters aft enough to fit the tunnels. Some have gotten by with putting a dogleg bend in the shifter.

I have seen that done on r380, i dont think they make the same adapter for the MT82.

I feel if i line up the gearbox to the mounts and relocate the engine mounts it should all line up. I scored a GW DC propshaftt for a puma as mine will hopefully be in the same position. Can't leave well enough alone

Naf, have you considered a sequential box?

Very content with my 6speed MT82 currently..

I was tickled with the idea, but its just a wast for me, as i am truly happy with the mt82 and 1.1 TC ratio.

Latest update.

Need to find the bracket that holds the fuses and relays under the steering wheel. Mine wasn't supplied with the kit, and it doesn't look like i can source it separately...

Waitin on a dhl shipment with my new cnc wiper houses and essential under dash parts before I press forward. Can't leave well enough alone

CNC viper houses? Please more info.
Rear propshaft - 30mm shorter is a lot, probably it needs to be shortened. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

CNC wiper houses

Not cheap though

Currently the engine was shifted rearwards 50mm, i used the front Puma double cardone Propshaft, and it fit perfectly...The rear propshaft needs to be about 1450mm fully collapsed as at rest i am 1480mm and closest the axle comes is 1460 when I lift the rear bumper to the point the axle dangles. I am not removin the springs, its too big of a job for similar results Can't leave well enough alone

I have to admire your willingness to push the boundaries, that sounds some serious engineering!!! Can't help feeling its more the challenge your after than just working aircon? Must be easier ways than moving the engine and gearbox surely? Aircon unit on the roof?

Dan Padmore, Pace Automotive has just done the following "Puma Dash... MT82 6 speed transmission, Td5 engine with VNT" look them up on Facebook. James

I saw that, i was 2/3 ahead of him six months ago.

Md eng helped source the mt82 conversion for me, and i loved it. Truly loved it.
The puma dash has to have the gearbox moved back for the mt82 shifters have a slot they fit into.

There are hacks for the puma dash, ministry of defender, pace automotive to name a few.

I wanted the whole tdci bulkhead as to reduce the air leaks into the cab.

I have the new 2.4 seatbox, and yes, there is a difference!!!

Just bought a new blower as the one that came with the bulkhead is missin some plastic bits to hold it on.

Very expensive venture when you try to do it the stock way... Can't leave well enough alone

Hi, just wondering if you made any more progress with your build?

I’m doing the same conversion with genuine Puma dash installed and deciding now if I keep the dogleg in my gearstick or look at fitting a disco box or use an adapter like in the pic above.

I’ve got a custom aircon specialist looking at options next week..
