The duty depends on where the part was made.
Also the shipper may add an admin charge. If you can see if the seller will do a door to door price (including all taxes) then that normally works out better. Not all couriers do it Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

They've already told that they'll just charge the ex-VAT price.
How do you mean it depends where they are made? Do different EU countries attract different import duty. Gov.uk just says a flat 2.5% 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

I believe it changes if they are actually EU made as opposed to being sold in the EU but made in China for example......

Surely duty from China was paid when it came into the EU from China in that case. I have no idea where the items were made but I would expect it was within the EU. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Well, this is 'the other way round', I buy all of my Defender parts from the UK.. ship to EU.
I do not pay UK Vat rates, but I am charged my local VAT rate by the seller (plus service fees I believe). Although local VAT rate is less than UK rate, it has, overall, become more expensive 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Since January, the company I once worked for is charged a £40 admin charge from the supplier in the EU to complete export paperwork and then Fedex charge £63 for the first item plus £1.5 for each additional item for sorting VAT and "clearance" for import.
A £200 import now costs 52% more. The company shut in July. I think anyone who voted for Brexit should have to pay compensation to those who didn't. For comparison, I can send and receive goods to New Zealand and all I have to pay are local VAT rates in the recipient country. No additional charges, for some goods it has become cheaper to buy from Australia or New Zealand even with shipping costs compared to the EU. |

my local VAT rate is higher than the UK, but still purchasing from the UK and paying the random charges, I would say they are random as I can buy the same thing, one gets admin fees the other does not, and even sometimes the vat calculation is different, I have learnt not to argue with them as its never a outcome in my favour when you do. But saying that its still cheeper to purchase from the UK, pay what's needed than getting it from my local (yep less than 5 miles away) dealer. or even some of the mail order companies in spain. I also purchase stuff from the US (not for the defender) I can get the same parts from the UK, in fact some are made in the UK, and in that way its normally cheeper to purchase from the US than the UK Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |
