Importing from NZ to UK
Hi, I am returning to UK from NZ after 16years. I have a 2020 X P400 that I was thinking about exporting back to UK, JLR here advised that the reprogramming of the systems can be done but it is a risk. Also the NZ warranty and Service plans would no longer be valid but a local warranty can be bought at “considerable cost”.

Does anyone have any experience of importing back to UK and what costs and UK regulation problems can be expected?

Thanks.

Are you mad? Not importing the car, but returning to the angry, bitter, failing, crowded, badly managed, dump that is the modern UK? From a huge, unspoilt, stunning wilderness. Shocked
Unless you’re a Great British Pub obsessive, which I’d understand.

Joking aside, if you google, there are specialist companies out there doing UK/NZ relocation services and I’m sure they’d quote for the car. Are you going to drive back? I would. Epic journey. Thumbs Up

But as JLR says, is it really worth it? If it was a hard-to-come-by classic car, I’d understand. But the cost of the journey, reprogramming, warranty, registration etc, would surely not be much different to the loss you’ll take from selling in NZ and buying new/2nd hand in the UK. And certainly a lot less hassle. And long term, grey imports (even if reprogrammed and warrantied, and coming from NZ rather than central Africa) never get as much on resale as a home bought/based version. Yet another fiscal loss to build in.

Save yourself the hassle and sell in NZ, buy in the UK…. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

As a freight agent id concur with the above!!

Containers are very hard to come by currently, sea-freight costs are through the roof, you will have UK VAT & Duty costs liable upon import, and the sea freight infrastructure is in disarray.

Sell it there and buy one here.

The service plan may be a local arrangement but warranty being location specific? That really doesn't sound right.
