| Newbie Introduction and 16x 7 Rim/Tire Question | |
Hi All,
Newbie to the Forum and to Defenders. I've been in the FJ 40 world for a while and thought I would go over to the dark side  .
I'm in Austin, Texas and just bought a 92 Defender 90 that needs new paws. Looking for some advice. I tried the search, but probably didn't do a good job so if this has already been nauseatingly covered apologies and just point me in the right direction!
Current rims are alloy 16 x 7 with 30mm spacers. I'm interested in a 31" tire if I can and kind of like narrower. My FJ sported 31 X10.5. I'll need tires that are "all terrain" (i.e., road use as well as moderate off road--no rock crawling or mud bathing).
Can I safely mount 235 85/r 16 on these rims?
I'm assuming if i switch up to a little wider steel rim later (16 x 8?) these would still work?
Any recommendations on a particular tire that folks really like?
if anyone is in the central texas area i would love to meet up.
