No I haven’t seen any, only on previous models.
Mechman alternators look good in the States, but the Defender puma motor (2.4 and 2.2). Aren’t common over there at all. Ideally need some old past it alternators for accurate measurements of the mounting bolt system. I would have thought with some engineering experience and capability and access to proper tooling I’d imagine something could be looked into. Or a 3D printed mock up first of a bracket. The factory alternators have a pretty good output, which we are lucky to have but you are right that on a non AC defender a bracket system should be possible to be made. I’m guessing possible lack of demand is the reason for non production, with previous models many were required as an upgrade due to lower Alt output. Which in turn created demand and thus sales. Somewhere like Mechman maybe able to help, but shipping and things like that maybe cost prohibitive. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Yes, many factory-supplied utility company vehicles have a second alternator mounted where the a/c compressor would be fitted on the school-delivery-versions. Someone clearly makes a fitting kit for this, but I have no idea who it is. It is a very neat installation, but sadly I don't have any photos of one.

Was it LR special vehicles division perhaps? They would make and prepare the cherry pickers and things like that for power companies and BT etc. No Guts, No Glory.

Yes, I think it is highly likely that the vehicles I have seen have all had SVO conversions, however LR would undoubtedly have subbed out the fitting kits. It may be that it is listed in a Special Vehicles options list or parts catalogue, but I have never seen such a thing for the TDCi.
The a/c location would also be a handy place for an engine-driven compressor or hydraulic pump. |

Photos of an SVO fitment, 2.4 TDCi. Very neat!

Thanks for pics. I wonder why they couldn’t design it so that it drove the alternator directly, instead of via that rotoflex coupling. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I think it is because the alternator would foul the turbo actuator.
