reverse light switch should have green/yellow and green/brown cables.
The single cable may well be for the handbrake warning light switch but is white with yellow trace. Usually terminated with a single female bullet terminal somewhere above the transfer box. Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

If the single wire is the handbrake switch wiring it will pass through the bulkhead to the switch attached to the handbrake lever.
The reverse light switch connector is high up on the R380 gearbox. To get to it crawl underneath and look up just in front of the seat base on the passenger side. You should see the switch on the passenger side of the gearbox. You can see the switch, wiring and connector hanging off the R380s extension housing in the below photos Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Actually the best way of getting a look at the switch is to pop the transmission tunnel off and it is just there (silver/gold) cylinder just behind the wiring loom. The reverse wiring connector can be seen in this photo too.

I might be looking in the wrong place then. I assumed that this was where the reverse switch was supposed to be. But this is accessed from under the middle seat, not within the transmission tunnel.

That blanking plug is for the transfer box temperature warning light switch (never seen it fitted on a defender). My V8 discovery had one

Thanks all, nearly there now.
Took the tunnel off to gain access. Found the switch. The connector had come apart. There is voltage across the plug but the switch is not making the circuit Click image to enlarge I shorted across the pins with wire and the test lamp I have at the rear lit up. New switch it is then. Thanks for the pointers |
