Hi, just got back from 3 weeks in France/alps, spent a fair view nights in the roof tent. We previously bought an inflating air bed to top up the Hannibal mattress, but must admit the faff of taking it in and out each night is wearing..! It’s a 50 mm ‘self inflating’ hobby that is a pain to get back in its’ pouch..
The foams in the Hannibal are just a regular foam, has anyone successfully replaced them with something superior? To note I am a landscaper with various sore back/shoulder issues, the good lady has had 2 rounds of back surgery…!  Click image to enlarge Gratuitous set up pic.. Interesting.. does it fold up ok when closing the tent up?…

Our pop top has a froli mattress & sprung base, not sure you could if you could get the same but it’s better than our bed at home.

I recollect talk of a memory foam topper being used on some RTT's but I can't find the post now that said about it. I must admit I find the Eezi awn one a little thin and could do with just a bit more give.
It must be an age thing, as a young boy scout i could spend a weekend camping or when on expedition sleeping in a tent with just a piddly small piece of foam under the sleeping bag. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest |

That was my old post from our Maggi RTT. Has 10mm camping mat ( x2 to make up a double) under the original mattress & a 40mm memory foam topper on top. Much better than std.

We have the same issue with our 1.8m tuff trek tents. The mattresses are standard foam about 60-70mm thick. My brother and I are fairly heavy framed people and we just sink through them!
He bought a 50mm memory foam king size bed mattress topper to supplement it which has made his one really comfy. But the combined thickness makes it hard to them fold the tent over with bedding still on. I like the idea of the 50mm+ self inflating. Does anyone have a link? It's the folding nature of a non pop-top setup that's the issue for us. |

i use a ventilating underlay (both ventilates and adds spring) and bought a 'hinged' mattress from a boat bed supplier who has a range of foams and coverings (cool touch cover is good on a memory foam mattress). Can't remember the name but google. lots of boat/caravan mattress makers. 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent
