Turbo sticking actuator rod 2.4 TDCI
Looks like I might need a new turbo for my 2007 2.4 Defender,

As spoken about in a multitude of other posts I was having various performance issues and after replacing the Air filter, fuel filter, MAF and MAT sensors and the VCV valve the problem was still there but replacing these parts did make it run more smoothly.

I came across a turbo post describing a stuck or sticking actuator rod so as described I disconnected the linkage and tried to move the actuator rod which would hardly move and was very stiff in its operation (WD40 and brute force helped somewhat but I couldn't describe it as loose or smooth in operation even after that, I then tried 2 bottles of Forte turbo cleaner in to a 1/4 tank of fuel, this didn't make much difference to be honest so I am back to WD40 and brute force to keep it moving.

Question is and I probably know the answer already is my only solution now a new Turbo? hence the title.

Good effort so far.

The below videos show how free the actuator arm should move. Sounds like yours are well and truly stuck but apparently you can work them free with some perseverance wiggling back and forth back and forth over and over. But if no luck then you could look to send the turbo off for reconditioning, otherwise yes time for a new turbo

Thanks Hank,

Mine is no where near as free as in the first clip, so I have now started to look for a replacement probably will go the new route as I have no plans to sell my 90 and need the reliability of it.

Any one have any recommendation's of who to buy from?
