This is one of these jobs where the results will depend on your money, time and effort.
There are some pics on my 'rebuild' thread showing some of the work involved in replacing the lining. Not particularly expensive. It's not particularly difficult, but not the easiest thing I've done either. The problem with sticking with your original lining is that there's a layer of foam between the lining material and the backing. The foam ages and disintegrates, so the lining sags. If you simply try and squirt glue in there you'll need to remember that the rest of the foam will go - and the old foam will look a bit rubbish and lumpy under your newly resprayed liner. If I was doing this again - please no! - I'd make sure I got a fabric with a three way stretch. One of the commonly used companies (the one I used) offers a fabric which isn't as stretchy, and so harder to work with. I'm afraid I've no idea about what paint/stuff you could spray on. Hi Karl,
Thanks for that. You need to bear in mind that I've been at it for 20years! That generates a lot of stuff to write about, and the last few years have been pretty busy. There's a lot of good content and similiar threads on here. Any further thoughts on your roof lining? Hi.
refurbishing the lining is not that hard, think most of it is in the description earlier in this thread. I´m a novice at this but fixed it earlier this year, with good results.....if I may say it myself. Take down the lining, strip of the old fabric and make sure you get rid of the foam backing. I think the secrets are PRE- cluing the material with something that fill the soft structure of the main lining. Else the spray glue used for fitting the fabric is too quickly absorbed into the main structure and the fabric don´t stick. An extra pair of hands when gluing on the fabric is a great help. I bought (on recommendation ) a fabric used for covering speakers, cost nothing and looks great. Good luck and take your time. |
