Aircon Recharge Connector Size
So I thought I would do a recharge and bought one of those STP kits with the hose and the gas.

I went to do this today and it seem like the valve that connects to the car is too big.

Does anyone happen to know if its me not doing it right or the wrong size? Rolling with laughter

You have two valves on your vehicle air con, low pressure and high pressure. You are trying to connect to the high pressure valve, the smaller one, don’t touch this valve at all for safety reasons.

You need to identify and use the low pressure valve which is the larger one.

All being said you really need to fully understand how aircon works before playing with it as too much gas will cause as many issues as too little and letting the gas’s into the air is illegal.

I have used that very kit on other vehicles but not on my defender so cant advise on where the larger low pressure valve is, but following the pipes should show it up or a quick search on here.

The connection points, one is by the compressor the other is on the opposite wing behind the water bottle for the wash wipe, kind of tucked under the wing. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

Found it, thanks!

It’s the one with the blue cap on the drivers side (RHD) and the connector clicked straight on.

Job took less than 10 minutes and now fully recharged.

Jumping on this thread if I may. I took my Puma to Halfords for a re-gas but the chap who was going to do it said the reading on his device was showing that the pressure was too high, which would indicate a leak (he did not have facilities to do a leak test).

Does this sound correct? Surely if there is a leak then the pressure would be low - I know nothing about air con...... Very Happy Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....
