Hi again (sigh). There is a rattle/clank/hammer sound under the front seats when coasting into stop after longer journeys and I think my brake drum is bug**red... I have seen similar symptoms and suggestions elsewhere on this forum (but have heard no recordings so I'm not sure).
However, even after having the drum "fixed" by the dealer, it is still there. So I just wanted to ask all you mechanically-minded people if it could be anything else considering: 1) It seems speed-dependent (about 6 clanks per second at 10 mph) 2) It happens with clutch depressed in 2nd and 3) ALSO with clutch engaged in neutral 4) I can provoke it by wiggling the gear stick left to right when 3) 5) As long as I'm going less than 15 mph it is consistently there (engine rpm-independent). It seems so unlikely that such a sound comes from a brake drum. Does the prop shaft really turn so fast at 10 mph? Can I rule out clutch and gearbox problems? Cheers Matt |

Others on here will know far more than me, but I'd check propshaft nuts for being tight, then heatsheilds etc.
If you remove cubby box and panel underneath it might be easier to trace noise without the echos under the seat box. Keith |

Wow - do you reckon ours were made by the same guy on the same day (mine in April 2011)? I guess they either forgot to tighten the same bolt/s or used the same batch of defective parts... |

Mine was delivered to Germany late March - could have been made around the same time "External" mods are speed unlimiter slightly lowered springs for German car parks and wheel spacers (turning circle is awesome) all from www.matzker.de Just checked and hand brake drum gets hot to touch on long journeys - shouldn't it stay cool? So I guess it really could be the culprit... Matt |
