Yes i have used JB weld and this is the result

Did you drill the holes originally on the 1st pic or are there standard in those locations?

The bolt on the left is there already, i only drilled the hole on the right 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Just a bit scared of drilling mine as the glass is directly behind that left hand side of the skin that's split. Think I may MIG weld it?

If you have a mig welder, then welding it is the best option.
I got a very cheap gas less mig welder, but got a very expensive wire for it (cost of the wire is 50% of the machine), cause the wire that comes with the machine is crap. Yeh been looking at a few MIGs on Halfords and Screwfix, look a safe bet for under £100 and will always come in handy with a defender lol

Welding is a better way to go but as i don't know how to weld i went down the route i did 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

MIG welding for sure if you have the capability. Personally I wouldn't bother with a gasless mig though.

Got mine from Lidl (Parkside). I also modified it for DC current as I could not weld with the wire that came with the package. But also DC, did not make a great improvement. Then got the wire from Japan... day night difference in welding quality.

I agree that CO2 Mig are better, and perhaps easier to use, does not leave flux residue, and very importantly solid wire used with CO2 does not give the toxic fumes that the gasless mig wire does. Only use gasless migs in well ventilated areas.
For me I just could not justify spending 3-4x the price I could get the gas less mig, as I do not have much use for it. Here is another shot of a weld from my gasless mig. I think it is not bad barring the spatter. So can still give good results for little money. If you are using mig more often, then the cost of the gasless (flux core) wire will become prohibitive. Thanks guys, think I will go down the gasless route as I'll probably use it few and far between but it will always come in handy.
I do have good soldering skills so hopefully I can transfer these to welding lol. |

Watch a few videos.
For me the gasless worked after: 1. Got the best quality flux core wire (I think I use 0.90mm). 2. Use the gasless mig as if it was a stick welder. The direction of welding relative to the angle of the torch is same as in stick welding (opposite to CO2 welding).
